With only four days left in China, I decide to go all out and book a trip with my Swedish dorm buddy for a days excursion to the Great Wall of China AND snowboarding! The package deal was being offered in my hostel and included a shuttle bus to the ski resort and tour guide to an original and protected part of the Great Wall. We left at 7:00am in the morning and had a great day exploring sacred parts of the great wall in the morning and snowboarding in the afternoon. You could actually see parts of the great wall from the ski slopes. After an intense night on the Beijing town I managed to find my way to the airport the next day and catch my flight to Bangkok. After a quick bus and Tuck Tuck trip to Ko Shan road I find the hostel where my buddy from Korea - Scott - had arrived and booked a room on the same day. The hostel - New Siam 1, is in an excellent location just off Ko Sahn, surrounded by street side cafes. We spent all night planning an awesome trip around Thailand. The next day we wandered the streets eating incredible food - Pad Thai, Thai Green Curry, Thai Red Curry and drinking the local beer. Like China, everything is incredibly cheap and $100US goes a long way. We travel through the markets and temples avoiding the scammers and con artists at every turn, while baking in the hot sun. Bangkok has some great sights, especially the Royal Palace. We spent a day oogling and aa-ing over the sparkling temples and royal mansion (leave your shorts at the door - you must be wearing long pants to visit the palace and temples, but you can borrow cool hippie pants for free at the front gate)
Later, we boked a combined train, bus and ferry ticket to Ko Pahn Yang for tomorrow where we hope to catch up with some more South Korean Gwanjuians over Christmas. Scuba diving - margaritas, beach bumming- here we come!
